TubeWrap extension privacy policy
Last updated: October 8, 2026
This policy covers the TubeWrap Chrome extension, version 2.0.0. It does not cover the separate TubeWrap website or the services of Google, OpenAI, OpenRouter, or other AI providers.
Information the extension handles
TubeWrap reads YouTube video identifiers, URLs, titles, captions, and transcripts to provide transcript tools, summaries, questions and answers, and source-based skill drafts. It stores selected video information, transcript caches, conversations, and skill collections in your browser. It does not collect a general record of your browsing history.
The extension handles the questions, prompts, custom instructions, generated answers, and drafts you enter or create through its features. It also saves preferences such as language, model selection, theme, and summary templates. Preferences and custom prompt settings use Chrome's sync storage and may be synchronized by Google when browser synchronization is enabled.
If you configure an OpenRouter API key, TubeWrap stores it in the extension's local browser storage. The key is excluded from settings backups and is not stored in Chrome sync storage. The extension sends it to OpenRouter to authenticate the AI requests you initiate. Local storage is not a separate encrypted credential vault.
How information is used and shared
TubeWrap requests video and caption information from YouTube. For transcripts that are unavailable in an existing tab, it may temporarily open an inactive YouTube watch tab and close it after acquisition.
When you request an AI summary, answer, or skill draft through OpenRouter, TubeWrap sends the relevant transcript, prompt, custom instructions, and applicable conversation context to OpenRouter and the model provider selected for that request. OpenRouter and those providers process this information under their own policies. AI use may incur charges on your OpenRouter account.
When you choose a ChatGPT handoff, TubeWrap opens ChatGPT and inserts or submits the requested transcript and prompt. OpenAI processes that content under your ChatGPT account settings and its policies. TubeWrap does not read or store your ChatGPT account password or authentication cookies. Temporary Chat routing, when selected, remains subject to OpenAI's rules and retention practices.
Copy and export actions place the requested content on your clipboard or save a file on your device. Settings backups exclude your OpenRouter API key. Skill exports contain the selected draft and its source evidence.
The extension has no developer-operated data collection endpoint or embedded advertising or analytics service. It does not sell user data, use it for advertising, or transfer it for unrelated purposes or credit decisions. Data transfers are limited to providing the features you request. TubeWrap's use of information complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.
Storage, retention, and controls
Your API key, conversations, transcript caches, and skill collections use local browser storage. Pending ChatGPT handoff prompts use session storage and have a one-hour validity window. Transcript caches have a 24-hour validity window and may be pruned earlier to stay within storage limits. Saved conversations and skill collections may remain until deleted or pruned under the extension's storage limits; they are not covered by the transcript-cache expiry.
You can change preferences and remove or replace your API key in TubeWrap settings, clear a video conversation, and delete skill collections. You can remove the extension to remove its local installation data. Files you exported and clipboard content are managed separately by you and your operating system. Removing the extension does not erase information already sent to AI providers or files you saved. Manage provider-side data through the relevant service.
Version 2.0.0 uses new settings keys and does not import settings or saved data from earlier TubeWrap versions. Earlier storage entries may remain in the browser, but the rebuild does not use them.
Network requests to YouTube, OpenRouter, and ChatGPT use HTTPS. Avoid including sensitive information in custom prompts or drafts unless you intend to share it with the selected service.
